New BMW M4 CSL! FIRST LOOK
Let's take a first look at the brand new BMW M4 CSL! Limited to only 1,000 cars, the new model is true to the CSL name; lighter, more power, and the fastest car BMW M have ever made. It's the 50th anniversary year for M, and the new M4 CSL is quite a way to celebrate it!
CSL stands for Coupe Sport Leightbau, a nameplate worn for the first time in the 1970s on the 3.0 CSL, and again for the e46 M3, now returning on the latest M4 generation. The philosophy is much the same, with the body featuring additional aero and carbon parts to save weight while the inside houses carbon buckets and a rear seat delete.
The 3.0l TwinPower Turbo inline-6 is now up 40hp to 550hp, with 650Nm of torque helping it go 0-100km/h (62mph) in 3.8s and to a top speed of 307km/h (190mph). The power unit is found underneath the full carbon bonnet with exposed stripes and red accents, with new strut braces to support it in the engine bay.
Notably amongst the changes are homologated yellow daytime running lights, along with a new style of grille in those often discussed kidneys of the new M3/M4. The M4 CSL is only available in 3 colours with no BMW Individual options.
100kg comes out of the car in total; the new fixed bucket saves 24kg, and removing the rear seats is an extra 21kgs. Next up come changes to the dynamic elements like the wheels and brakes, shaving another 21kgs. 15kgs comes out with the reduction in sound insulation, 11kg from CFRP body panels, 4kgs from the titanium exhaust muffler, and a final 4kgs from elements like the new kidney grilles and single zone AC.
After walking around the exterior, let's take a good look inside the M4 CSL as well. There's a lot to check out, and no doubt this is going to be an immensely popular car!
Thanks for watching, Tim
