MY NEXT FERRARI!? This Car is a Tempting Choice for the Shmeemobiles
What about one of these Ferraris for my collection!? I'm with the @AudrainMuseumNetwork in Rhode Island, to take this special, limited car for a drive and see what it's all about. After exploring the private Audrain Collection, I've picked to drive this car for good reason...!
The first ever video on the Shmee150 channel featured a Ferrari 458 Italia and a Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SV, and I've often considered eventually owning these cars down the line as a link back to where it began. I was recently visited by my friend Christian from BOTB, who purchased his dream 458 Spider and it really got me thinking about this direction, but naturally it makes sense to have a go in the more focused variant too.
The Ferrari 458 Speciale dialled up the ante for the 458 Italia much like it's predecessors; the 430 Scuderia and 360 Challenge Stradale. Following the same formula of more power, more aero, less weight, and revised dynamics, the Speciale offers 605hp (597bhp) from the 4.5 litre NA V8, up from 570hp in the regular car, but with the same 540Nm of torque. Visually distinct thanks to new bumpers, active aero, and the iconic stripe which in this case is finished in NART Blue against the Rosso Corsa paintwork.
This particular car is part of the Audrain Collection in Rhode Island, where we kick off at the private storage location filled with incredible cars including the line of Ferraris where we see the Enzo, F40, 330, 599 GTO and 550 Barchetta. However, with prices floating at 2.5x the cost of the regular 458 Italia, I'm certainly interested in whether it's worth the difference.
While the roads offer great scenery, there are limited opportunities to truly experience the car. Regardless, it's a great chance to feel a sense of what the Speciale is like and ponder the idea of one day adding one to my collection.
A special thanks goes to the team from Audrain; for their time, kindness, and generosity during my visit to Rhode Island. It is hugely appreciated that the owners of the collection made it possible to visit and share these private facilities with you.
