This is the new Toyota Yaris Cross!

Toyota has updated its family-friendly small SUV, and Mat’s going hands-on to see if it can compete with competitors like the Peugeot 2008 and Renault Captur.

When it comes to the design, you’d be forgiven for mistaking it for the previous edition, as the design is almost identical! But then again, that’s no bad thing. We’ve got our hands on the edition one above the entry-level, so it comes with a few additions such as black roof bars. This edition and above also has the option to come with two-tone paint. All-in-all though, it’s a smart-looking small SUV!

Step inside and the key change is a new, larger infotainment screen than in the previous car. This is added to all versions of the new Yaris Cross apart from the entry-level. There’s a mix of squishy soft materials and scratchy plastic throughout the cabin, and storage is pretty decent throughout. Thankfully, there are also some physical buttons for climate control!

Toyota has added a second engine to the Yaris Cross, meaning there are now two to choose from! Both are 1.5-litre 3-cylinders coupled with an electric motor. The entry-level produces 116hp, while the second option can produce 130hp.

The Yaris Cross starts at around £25,500 and rises to £35,500 for the range-topping edition. So is it the best small SUV you can buy in 2024? You’ll need to stick with Mat and see for yourself!
