The return of the Ford Bronco was a big deal. A very big deal. On the level of the Beatles getting back together, which is an especially impressive feat since John Lennon and George Harrison are dead.

The Bronco stoked a frenzy because it offers an alternative to the Jeep Wrangler while looking like a modern interpretation of the classic original Bronco. Ford did it right and resisted slapping the venerated nameplate on some characterless, blob-shaped crossover.

And it turned out that the new Bronco deserved the hype. In its inaugural Car and Driver comparison test, it easily beat the Wrangler. Then, for 2022, it won a 10Best award. With our love affair in full bloom, we eagerly ordered one for long-term review and, like so many other customers, waited months for it to arrive.
