Let's see what the new beast is like! The latest Mercedes-AMG C63 S E Performance has a controversial powertrain with a 4-cylinder hybrid powertrain instead of a V8, but let's find out how it drives with a run behind the scenes. From Race Start to the handling track, let's go!
After a few generations of V8 engines, the new C63 S is powered by a very trick P3 hybrid system that features a 476hp 4-cylinder turbo engine up front, and 204hp provided by electric power including the system over the rear axle. It features a clever 4MATIC+ AWD setup to distribute this power, meaning blisteringly quick performance while also enabling full electric driving for a short distance.
Visiting Immendingen, Germany, the home of the Mercedes-Benz testing facility, we can jump onboard for an experience with the car to run through the various driving modes, recouperation settings, and try both RACE START and DRIFT MODE onboard the new model.
The extra power comes from the hybrid system which is heavily responsible for the increase in weight to 2,111kg. However, the bump in power by almost 200hp from the previous model certainly goes a way to counteracting that.
