SENNA vs AVENTADOR SVJ vs GT2 RS - Silverstone Track Test!
McLaren Senna vs Lamborghini Aventador SVJ vs Porsche GT2 RS - it's shootout time! Topaz Detailing arranged the 3 important ingredients for a tasty recipe; Silverstone International Circuit, professional racing driver Oli Webb, and three of the very best track cars to be driven hard. Let's find out how they stack up!
The Lamborghini Aventador SVJ has a 6.5l NA V12 making 770PS and 720nm with by far the best exhaust sound of the group. Featuring a 4WD system and automated manual gearbox, the SVJ (Super Veloce Jota) is the most hardcore variant of the Aventador model. Wearing Pirelli Pzero Corsa tyres it's also the heaviest in the comparison but features Lamborghini's ALA active aerodynamics which helped it to hold the current title of the fastest production car ever on the Nurburgring Nordschleife with a lap time of 6:44.97.
That record was taken by beating the 6:47.3 set by our next entrant, the Porsche 911 GT2 RS. The GT2 RS is the most extreme version of Porsche's 911 Turbo with a 3.8 TT flat-6 making 700PS and 750nm. Seen here is the Weissach Package version of the car that saves additional weight with more carbon fibre, and in this case it also has a Manthey Racing geometry setup as well as the Michelin Cup 2 R tyres - the closest to slicks of this line-up. With full upgrades, the MR team have managed to set a Ring time of just 6:40.3 themselves.
The third entrant is a car that has never been run to date at the Nurburgring, the McLaren Senna. As the most expensive car in the test at around £800k (vs £400k for the SVJ and £300k for the GT2 RS), you would expect impressive performance and that's exactly what you get. The Senna has a 4.0l TT V8 that makes 800PS and 800Nm, but perhaps most crucially it also has 800kg of downforce available thanks to the active rear wing and front aero flaps. The Senna runs on a Pirelli Trofeo R tyre and as per the others is a private customer car that needs to be carefully looked after!
The three cars share similarities in that they are road legal track monsters that push performance boundaries for the ultimate in lap times while still be legalised to be driven on public highways. To drive them is professional racing driver and Topaz ambassador, Oli Webb. To prepare for the shootout, Oli had a number of laps behind the wheel in each car to get accustomed and comfortable. For the shootout, Topaz Detailing invited their clients to Silverstone for a track day, with a section dedicated to an interest in finding out which of these cars would be the fastest.
THE RESULTS: [SPOILER BELOW]
After equal numbers of laps to test and set times, the final results as determined from the cameras with their full laps present in this video:
McLaren Senna 1:06.38
Porsche GT2 RS 1:08.54
Lamborghini Aventador SVJ 1:10.90
