Porsche Carrera GT: the best supercar of the last 25 years | PistonHeads

There have been many truly great supercars launched since 1998, but who could resist the one with both a naturally aspirated F1 engine and a clutch pedal?

An amalgam of two aborted motorsport projects and essentially built in secret, the Carrera GT Type 980 was probably always destined for greatness. It was the first production car to feature a carbon fibre-reinforced plastic monocoque chassis, and positioned its dry-sumped 5,733cc V10 just behind your head - with a manual gear lever under your outstretched arm. There was inboard suspension, too, with pushrod-actuated dampers. Plus beauty and rarity and a silly price tag. But mostly now it's about that noise. Which is just extraordinary. Enjoy.
