New FERRARI VGT9 HYPERCAR! First Look at Ferrari's Vision Gran Turismo
Check out the brand new Ferrari VGT9! At long last, Ferrari have launched a Vision Gran Turismo car that gives us a glimpse into their future, and some pointers towards the LaFerrari's successor. Fresh off the press, let's have a look at what we know about the Ferrari VGT9!
Like many brands before, Ferrari have joined the bandwagon of Vision Gran Turismo cars with the VGT9, celebrating both the 25th anniversary of Gran Turismo and also 75 years of Ferrari since 1947. The VGT9 is named after Ferrari's 9 wins at Le Mans from 1949-1965, ahead of their return with the 499P that's entering the Le Mans Hypercar class.
Powered by an evolution of the V6 from the 296 GTB/GTS/GT3 and 499P, the VGT9 produces 1,356hp, of which 1,030hp comes from the 3.0l TT V6 and 326hp from a trio of electric motors. Along with 1MW of power, it also has a dry weight of only 1,250kg meaning 0-100km/h (62mph) in under 2 seconds, and 0-200km/h (124mph) in under 5 seconds before reaching a top speed of 350km/h (217mph). Not only that, but a hypothetical Fiorano laptime of 1:10 is given; against the 1:20 of the 812 Competizione, 1:19.7 of the LaFerrari, and 1:19.0 of the SF90 Stradale.
However, with the introduction of the Icona Series, Ferrari have created a fantastic divergent product portfolio with a heavy bias to emotion and petrolhead purism found in cars like the Daytona SP3, and a direction towards the ultimate in technology in the hypercar direction of the Codename F250, LaFerrari successor. No doubt, the VGT9 is giving us insight and clues in the direction of that car, due to arrive in 2 years or so from now.
The Vision Gran Turismo model from Ferrari has been launched at the Gran Turismo World Finals, a special celebration and a model that will be both available in the game next month, as well as on display at the Ferrari museum simultaneously - I can't wait to see it in person!
Thanks for watching, Tim
