The light system on BMW Motorsport’s new M8 GT flagship not only sets benchmarks in terms of technology, but the headlight design on the BMW M8 GTE also looks amazing. The design is based on the iconic twin circular halo headlamps, with two LED rings. The rear lights underline the proximity to the new BMW 8 Series Coupé and take their inspiration from the design of the production lights.
Over the course of the 2018 motorsport season, the drivers at the wheel of the new BMW M8 GTE will be able to depend on a strong ally, which will be particularly beneficial at 24-hour races: the high-performance light system on the new BMW M8 GTE 2018.
BMW works driver Alexander Sims (GBR) gets straight to the heart of the matter: “24-hour races are simply a huge challenge – for the driver, team and any other components involved.” There is a particularly strong focus on the effectiveness of a car’s lights at these marathon races, which last twice around the clock. Following extensive tests and intensive development, feedback from drivers of the BMW M8 GTE has been more than positive in this regard.
“The new light technology is outstanding,” said Philipp Eng (AUT). “It takes many different factors to make a good light on a racing car. In the case of the BMW M8 GTE, the engineers have done everything right.” The experts at BMW Motorsport literally started with a blank sheet of paper. They created the light system for the new BMW M8 GTE from scratch, consistently designing it for use in motor racing. The very latest, cutting-edge technology was used in the production process, including Metal Additive Manufacturing. The cooling elements in the light system on the BMW M8 GTE were manufactured using this special 3D printing procedure.
BMW Motorsport presented the new BMW M8 GTE in its livery for the 2018 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in Daytona (USA) on Wednesday. The 56th Rolex 24 at Daytona will be an endurance sports car racing event held at the Daytona International Speedway, Daytona Beach, Florida on January 27–28, 2018. It will also be the first race for the 2018 WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
The new BMW M8 GTE 2018 is an upcoming endurance grand tourer (GT) car constructed by the German automobile manufacturer BMW. The new BMW M8 GTE 2018 was developed in late 2016 and will make its competitive début in IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and FIA WEC from 2018 season respectively and thus marking BMW Motorsport returning to 24 Hours of Le Mans after six-year absence that last time BMW competed in 2011. The all new BMW M8 GTE 2018 was designed by BMW chief engineer Dominic Harlow. The M8 GTE, which replaced the ongoing BMW M6 GTLM at the end of the 2017 season, is based on the production 2018 BMW M8.
Speaking in an interview, BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt looks back on the development of the new BMW M8 GTE 2018 and underlines the importance of team spirit in the development crew.
Daytona. The new BMW M8 GTE has completed more test drives at the setting for its race debut in January 2018: BMW Motorsport and BMW Team RLL were on the Daytona (USA) track this week as part of official testing for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship (IWSC). This was the first time that the new BMW M8 GTE 2018 GT flagship race car from BMW Motorsport had shared the circuit with its future North America competitors. The first competitive appearance for the BMW M8 GTE will be at the 24 Hours of Daytona on 27th/28th January.
A private test had already taken place at Homestead (USA) last week ahead of official testing in Daytona. On both occasions, the new BMW M8 GTE 2018 was supervised by BMW Team RLL, which will be competing next season with the new BMW M8 GTE in the IMSA series. John Edwards and Connor De Phillippi (both USA) shared driving duties. Martin Tomczyk (GER) was also in action at Homestead.
