The McLaren P1 is a concept car by English automotive manufacturer McLaren Automotive. It previews the follow-up to the long-awaited McLaren F1 successor. The P1's styling is influenced by the McLaren MP4-12C but with added body panels to make the car look aggressive. It will not have the same three seat layout as its predecessor, the McLaren F1. The design of the headlights is also reminiscent of the McLaren logo.
Although there has been no official information given, secondary sources have indicated that it could feature anything from a new twin turbo V10 or the same 3.8-litre twin turbo V8 engine from the MP4-12C combined with a Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) for a combined power output of 976 PS (718 kW; 963 bhp). This may enable the P1 to reach a theoretical top speed of approximately 384 km/h (239 mph) with production beginning in early 2013 and sales taking place towards the end of the year.[1]
It debuted at the 2012 Paris Motor Show.[2]
Tom Moore from The Manufacturer magazine revealed that the P1 will cost £700,000 before taxes and that McLaren Automotive plans to limit production to just 500.[1]
As with the McLaren F1 road car of 1992, the McLaren P1 is a mid-engine design that uses a carbon fibre monocoque and roof structure safety cage concept called MonoCage, which is a development of the MonoCell used in the current MP4-12C and MP4-12C Spider upgrade that came out in early 2012.

Production-ready McLaren P1™confirmed for 83rd International Motor Show in Geneva
With one month until all eyes in the automotive world turn to Switzerland, McLaren Automotive has confirmed that the global debut of the production-ready McLaren P1™ will be at the 83rd International Motor Show in Geneva, and taken the opportunity to give a glimpse of the, so far unseen, interior. The latest insight confirms that the McLaren P1™ will adopt a race-inspired digital dash readout, and gives further information relating to the levels of performance that can be expected with a highly-focused 'Race' mode.
The visuals demonstrate what the driver will see as the McLaren P1™ transitions into a fully-focussed track car. On selecting Race mode, the large double element adjustable 'active' rear wing extends, and the pitch of the wing alters into an optimal aerodynamic position. In Race mode the screen includes a bank of lights across the top, which illuminate green, followed by red and finally blue. These act as a shift indicator, as in a Formula 1 car.
More exact details about the McLaren P1™, and Race mode, will be unveiled as we get closer to Geneva.
Geneva press day information:
The final, production-ready McLaren P1™ will make its global debut at the 83rd International Motor Show in Geneva, and the McLaren Automotive press conference will take place at 11.15am CET (10.15am GMT), Tuesday 5 March.
