McLaren 765LT! Will I Upgrade My 'Lost' 675LT?

Where is my McLaren 675LT Spider? What do I think about the new McLaren 765LT? Will I upgrade from the 675LT to 765LT? It's time to explain the story behind my 675LT's absence from the channel and discuss its future in the garage and whether it'll be joined by the successor as a new Shmeemobile in due course.

There's a long story behind the disappearance of my McLaren 675LT Spider that now goes back about a year. 12 months ago I took it into Topaz Detailing to refresh some of the parts of PPF where as always they carried out an inspection and unfortunately found some paint issues. This is a problem that has plagued many McLarens of this age, whereby some of the panels have started to show oxidation with some bubbling under the paint on the edges of the front wings. The only cure is to replace the parts and paint them, as such knowing this would be a longer process I planned it to be done during my big tour to the USA with the Ford GT.

Upon return in November however, things weren't correct - the paint didn't quite match, the bonnet now showed oxidation too, and because it had been left off charger the battery had gone prompting a host of errors including airbags disabled, service overdue and plenty more. However, knowing my plans ahead for the 10 year anniversary of Shmee150 shoot in January, and 10,000th Instagram post to include all 10 cars, I decided to delay the rectification works until after that was done before then sending it back which brings us to where we are now. The works are supposedly finished, but the car hasn't arrived back with me and that specific garage is closed so I am without any real update.

However, onto more exciting topics of discussion, McLaren have now released the successor in the form of the 765LT! The second generation Super Series has received a hardcore variant, which takes the 720S and adds power, strips weight, no doubt adding more of an emotional driving experience along the way. I have been asked countless times if I will upgrade my 675LT to the 765LT, but I have no intentions to sell the current car so this would only happen as an extra garage member. This is where the Senna comes into play; as the ultimate track weapon and very much the same purpose/reasoning as a potential 765LT. Would it make sense to purchase one of the 1,530 (plus special versions) of the new car at this time alongside the 675LT and Senna - to me right now, no it doesn't.

That's not to say I cannot wait to drive it, and potentially have my opinion changes but I shall have to wait for the time to do so and think further about it.

Thanks for watching, Tim
