Lamborghini Urus ST-X Concept: the first Super SUV for racing
• Lamborghini Urus ST-X Vision of a racing car conceived for an innovative single-brand championship starting in 2020
• New “Lamborghini Urus ST-X arrive and drive” racing experience in Lamborghini’s motorsport programs
• Dedicated Lamborghini Urus ST-X racing components and a 25% weight reduction compared to the production Lamborghini Urus
During the 2018 World Finals, Lamborghini Squadra Corse unveils the new Lamborghini Urus ST-X, the racing version of the first Super SUV in the brand’s history. The vision is a car conceived for an innovative single-brand championship that combines race circuit and off-road track. The new format will debut in 2020 in Europe and the Middle East on specially prepared FIA-approved circuits, with an “arrive and drive” formula designed to offer driver-customers a complete package including car and technical support during the race weekends.
The Lamborghini Urus ST-X applies Lamborghini Squadra Corsa’s motorsport experience to a brand new segment. Compared to the production model, the Lamborghini Urus ST-X Concept has been mechanically optimized and equipped with all the FIA-approved safety elements, including steel roll cage, fire suppression system, and FT3 fuel tank.
Aesthetically, the new Lamborghini Urus ST-X is characterized by the matt Verde Mantis (green) livery in addition to the hood in visible carbon fiber. Larger air intakes optimize the cooling of the V8 twin-turbo engine that is capable of delivering 650 CV and 850 Nm of torque. The overall Lamborghini Urus ST-X look is completed by the rear wing, the lateral racing exhausts with a new hexagonal design, and 21” single-nut aluminum alloy wheels fitted with Pirelli tires.
The development of the racing Lamborghini Urus ST-X configuration has also led to a 25% weight reduction compared with the production model. The light weight, along with the raised set-up and torsional stiffening provided by a roll cage integrated in the frame, contribute to making the Urus ST-X Concept a race car for track and off-road use without compromise. Its track debut will take place during the 2019 Lamborghini World Finals.
The Lamborghini Urus is an SUV The Lamborghini Urus does not use Lamborghini's hallmark of naturally aspirated V10 or V12 engines. Instead, the Lamborghini Urus engine is 650 PS (478 kW) 4.0 L twin-turbo V8. The Lamborghini Urus engine is a modified version of Audi's 4.0L V8 that has applications in both the Porsche Cayenne Turbo and Porsche Panamera Turbo, as well as some of the Audi S and RS models, the Audi A8, the Bentley Continental V8 and the Bentley Flying Spur V8. The Lamborghini Urus engine has been heavily reworked though, and produces 99 hp (74 kW) and 80 N⋅m (59 lbf⋅ft) of torque more than the Cayenne Turbo, with changes such as new cylinder heads.
The Lamborghini Urus is much lighter than most of its competitors (i.e the Bentley Bentayga, Porsche Cayenne and Rolls-Royce Cullinan) at less than 2,200 kg (4,850 lb) mainly because of the extensive usage of carbon fiber reinforced polymer, although it is based on the same platform as the Audi Q7, Bentley Bentayga, Porsche Cayenne, and Volkswagen Touareg. The Lamborghini Urus engine is rated at a maximum power output of 478 kW (641 hp; 650 PS) at 6,000 rpm and maximum torque of 850 N⋅m (627 lb⋅ft) at 2,250–4,500 rpm. The Lamborghini Urus has a front-engine, all-wheel-drive layout, and Lamborghini Urus top speed of 305 km/h (190 mph) making it one of the world's fastest production SUVs. The Lamborghini Urus 0–100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.6 seconds and 0–200 km/h (124 mph) in 12.8 seconds. Lamborghini has developed the world's largest set of carbon ceramic brakes for the Lamborghini Urus, with 440 mm (17.32 in) rotors in the front and 370 mm (14.57 in) rotors in the rear using ten-piston calipers at the front and six-piston calipers at the rear. The all-wheel drive system of the Lamborghini Urus under normal driving sends 40 percent of the engine's torque to the front wheels and 60 percent to the rear wheels uses torque vectoring to send as much as 70 percent to the front or 87 percent to the rear when necessary. The Lamborghini Urus SUV also features rear-wheel steering and an air suspension. The Lamborghini Urus price US$200,000 base and will have a seating capacity of four to five people.
