I'm NOT Selling My Porsche Taycan Turbo S and HERE'S WHY!
How dare I buy an EV?! My Porsche Taycan Turbo S caused quite a stir and while there are learning processes and inconveniences of electric cars, there are also lots of positives. Here are the reasons why I'm going to be keeping it in the garage longer than you might expect!
Despite being a petrolhead, I've always been interested in technology hence starting my YouTube channel over a decade ago. The world of EVs mixes cars and computers together so it's always been a case of time until one would be introduced that fits the bill for me, and in the form of the Porsche Taycan that has happened. However, revealing the first EV Shmeemobile on the channel has generated quite the discussion from those who think it's sacrilegious for a car fan to dare go down the path of electric, to many others interested in what it's actually like.
I promised I'd bring you along with me for the learning curve, and for sure I've made some mistakes in the early days because it is genuinely a case of learning what you need to do. I've had countless messages from those with lots of EV experience to let me know about it, but for this to really kick off, what many perhaps don't understand is that it will take time until everyone knows and understands exactly what you've got to do. This is precisely why I'm trying to organically bring you along as I go through these motions and work it all out.
There are certainly a lot of people watching videos about EVs with pre-conceptions as to the whole concept, without even giving it time to consider properly whether it could work out. I'm trying to be balanced and share the good and bad; from chargers that don't work properly to those that give you 75% in 30 minutes while you grab some lunch. I've had more than enough experience in my life of closed petrol stations, some without good enough fuel for powerful cars, and running on fumes - yet because the idea of EV is new it triggers a totally different reaction.
Another discussion point is the comparison with the Tesla Supercharger network, raising the question that every country is actually very different when it comes to these things so I can only really speak for the UK so far, where the Tesla network isn't significantly better than the rest, and soon to all be shared anyway.
Hopefully this video 'update' will answer many of the questions on the topic, and act as a place to look back when things come up in future.
Thanks for watching, Tim
