E.ON launches new ‘Freedom is Electric’ campaign, promoting European charging point expansion

• E.ON launches new ‘Freedom is Electric’ campaign, as it targets 10,000 charging points in Europe by 2020
• New ‘Freedom is Electric’ film brings together a collection of incredible electric vehicles, including a 218mph superbike and the world’s only electric monster truck
• E.ON is rolling out its ultra-fast charging network across Europe, offering 150kW, with a modular upgrade option to 350kW. The stations enable charging of a 400km-range battery in 20-30 minutes

The world’s only fully electric monster truck, a 200mph EV superbike and an all-electric 240mph zero emissions supercar prototype have all been brought together in a new film by energy provider E.ON.

The ‘Freedom is Electric’ campaign (www.eon.com/freedomiselectric) highlights the diversity of the world of electric vehicles, charged using E.ON’s fast-charging technology, which will be available in thousands of locations across Europe.

The ultra-fast charging network, offering 150 kW of charging power with a modular upgrade option to 350 kW, will enable charging of a full 400 kilometres range battery in only 20-30 minutes. E.ON is targeting 10,000 charging points throughout Europe by 2020.

In the UK E.ON has already launched a new tariff for electric and hybrid vehicle owners which offers customers access to a competitive day rate, and a night rate priced 33% below the day rate for use when many electric and hybrid car owners will choose to charge their vehicle.

Set against a barren desert landscape, the film, entitled ‘Freedom is Electric’, features a range of cars and bikes traditionally perceived to be gas guzzling machines. In reality these are both converted and new-concept electric vehicles, developed by individuals or small companies with a real passion for zero emissions technology.

Also running in the desert is the Tachyon Speed by Raesr, an electric hyper-car prototype developed from the ground up for the ultimate in road and track performance. This was the first outing for the carbon fibre car which carries 1,250+ bhp, 3,650 lbs-ft of torque and estimated performance figures of 0-60 in less than 3 seconds, 0-120 in under 7 seconds and a top speed of 240+ mph.

The AC Cobra, sold as the Shelby Cobra in the United States, is an Anglo-American sports car with a Ford V8 engine, produced intermittently in both the UK and the US since 1962.
Shelby Cobra Super Snake
In 1966, CSX 3015 S/C was selected and converted into a special model called the Super Snake the "Cobra to End All Cobras." Originally part of a European promotional tour before its conversion. This Shelby Cobra Super Snake conversion called for making the original racing model street legal with mufflers, a windshield and bumpers amongst other modifications. But some things were not modified, including the racing rear end, brakes and headers. The most notable modification to the Shelby Cobra Super Snake is the addition of Twin Paxton Superchargers, TPS.

Shelby crafted a second Shelby Cobra Super Snake model, CSX 3303, from a street version. The Shelby Cobra Super Snake CSX 3303 was given to comedian Bill Cosby, his close friend. When Cosby attempted to drive the Shelby Cobra Super Snake CSX3303, he found that it was very difficult to keep under control; he later recounted the experience on his 1968 stand-up comedy album 200 M.P.H.. Cosby gave the car back to Shelby, who then shipped it out to one of his company's dealers in San Francisco, S&C Ford on Van Ness Avenue. S&C Ford then sold the Cosby Shelby Cobra Super Snake to customer Tony Maxey. Maxey, suffering the same issues as Cosby did with the car, had his throttle stick while leaving a traffic stop, lost control and drove it off a cliff, landing in the Pacific Ocean waters.

Shelby used his own Shelby Cobra Super Snake CSX 3015 as a personal car over the years, sometimes entering it into local races like the Turismos Visitadores Cannonball-Run race in Nevada, where he was "waking [up] whole towns, blowing out windows, throwing belts and catching fire a couple of times, but finishing." Shelby Cobra Super Snake CSX3015 was auctioned on 22 January 2007, at the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Event in Scottsdale, Arizona, for $5 million plus commission (£2.8 million), a record for a car made in the U.S.
