Did Cristiano Ronaldo Buy the Bugatti La Voiture Noire?
The Bugatti La Voiture Noire is the most expensive new car in the world and recent rumours suggest that the lucky buyer is footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, but is that true? Let's take a look at this bespoke masterpiece during the Concorso d'Eleganza at Villa d'Este including clarifying how much it actually cost.
Spoilers inbound, but contrary to what has been reported in the press, the La Voiture Noire does not in fact have anything to do with Ronaldo, despite him being the owner of a Bugatti Chiron and other hypercars including a new McLaren Senna just this week. This has been confirmed by his representatives plus keep watching for some further hints when it comes to the price tag itself.
During the launch event for the car at the Geneva Motorshow, Mr Winklemann announced it as costing €16.7m in confusion with the price tag discussed in the press releases ex-taxes at circa €11m. This starts to make sense when you realise that in addition to the base there is VAT plus luxury tax in Austria to bring the total number up to the announced figure of €16.7m.
What that price tag buys is a completely developed vehicle from Bugatti of which only one vehicle will be produced paying homage to the missing Type 57 SC Atlantic from the 1930s, the original "black car".
However, after a walkaround, plans for the day are quickly turned on their head as the heavens open and the hail start falling down! Thinking of the incredibly valuable classics on display this certainly was't a desired direction for the day to head, but nonetheless great to see La Voiture Noire again in person and be able to clarify some of these questions.
Thanks for watching, Tim
