Performance, maximised: the new BMW M5 Competition.
The BMW stand at the Mondial de l’Automobile 2018 also has a world premiere in store for fans of high-performance cars, as BMW M GmbH unveils the most powerful and sportiest variant of its high-performance sedan – the new BMW M5 Competition (fuel consumption combined: 10.8 – 10.7 l/100 km [26.2 – 26.4 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 246 – 243 g/km) – for the first time in Paris. Engine output raised by 19 kW/25 hp (over the standard version of the new BMW M5) to 460 kW/625 hp, even more direct response and bespoke chassis tuning serve up a driving experience inspired overtly by motor sport competition. The new BMW M5 Competition also channels its power via an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission and M xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive. The specific power delivery of the V8 engine, which gains from upgrades to various details, is reflected in a 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) time now reduced to 3.3 seconds. The new BMW M5 Competition hits 200 km/h (124 mph) from rest in 10.8 seconds.
A model-specific M Sport exhaust system, bespoke engine mounting and exclusive 20-inch M light-alloy wheels round off the elite athlete’s performance-enhancing package. Special design features in high-gloss black and “Competition” lettering added to the “M5” badge on the boot lid point to the exceptional dynamic potential of the new flagship model.
BMW NUMBER ONE NEXT. The BMW Group’s corporate strategy spotlights development fields particularly relevant to the company’s future performance, i.e. design, automated driving, connectivity, electrification and services. The advances in these areas presented in Paris underscore the premium carmaker’s leading role in shaping the future of personal mobility. Also of key importance are BMW’s model offensive in the luxury segment (launched with the show premiere of the new BMW 8 Series Coupe), the continued expansion of the BMW X model family with the debut of the new BMW X5 and the addition of the new BMW M5 Competition to the BMW M GmbH line-up.
The BMW M5 2018 sixth generation of the world’s most successful high-performance sedan at the premium end of the executive class takes to the stage in the form of the new BMW M5 (fuel consumption combined: 10.5 l/100 km [26.9 mpg imp]*; CO2 emissions combined: 241 g/km*). The new
BMW M5 represents a unique blend of compelling track potential and the everyday usability and comfort of a luxurious business sedan.
• The new BMW M5 gives a debut to the newly developed M xDrive. This M-specific all-wheel-drive system brings together the outstanding agility and precision of the standard drivetrain configuration familiar from other M models with the supreme traction in all conditions offered by all-wheel drive.
• The new BMW M5 channels its engine power through the new eight- speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic. The result is exceptional performance both in day-to-day driving and on the race track.
• The various BMW M5 2018 M xDrive modes (4WD, 4WD Sport, 2WD) take the driving dynamics of the new BMW M5 to a whole new level. 2WD mode even switches the car to rear-wheel drive for the ultimate driving experience.
• The latest generation of the BMW M5 2018 4.4-litre V8 engine with
M TwinPower Turbo technology develops 441 kW/600 hp and peak torque of 750 Nm (553 lb-ft).
• The performance figures for the new BMW M5 are more than impressive: It accelerates from 0 – 100 km/h (62 mph) in a lightning-fast 3.4 seconds and from 0 – 200 km/h (124 mph) in just 11.1 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h (155 mph) or – if desired – 305 km/h (189 mph).
• The new BMW M5 is fitted as standard with M compound brakes with blue painted six-piston brake callipers at the front and single-piston floating callipers at the rear. Even more effective M carbon ceramic brakes with callipers painted in a gold colour can be specified as an option and provide a 23-kilogram weight saving.
• The new BMW M5 makes no compromises in terms of equipment. It comes as standard with leather upholstery and M seats for the driver and front passenger. The new M multifunction seats can be ordered as an option. Added to which, the M5 can also be specified optionally with all of the assistance systems available for the BMW 5 Series.
• The new BMW M5 can be specified exclusively with the paint shade Marina Bay Blue Metallic as part of a varied spectrum of colors including several matt finishes.
• The new BMW M5 price €117,900. An exclusively equipped BMW M5 First Edition price extra €19,500.
