A8 L (2010--present)
In 2010, Audi released the long-wheelbase version of the D4. Audi previewed an A8 L prototype vehicle in 2011 demonstrating long-term evolution (LTE) broadband technology. Developed in collaboration with Alcatel-Lucent, the car's mobile broadband connection is a fourth generation ('4G') technology with data transfer speeds of up to 100Mbit/s.[29][30][31]
A8 L W12 Audi exclusive concept
It is a limited (50 units) version of A8 L W12 with seats upholstered in Cognac-colored leather by Poltrona Frau, inlays made from the wood olive ash natural, light gray-brown veneer, sill trims with "Audi exclusive concept" lettering, deep-pile carpeting.
The vehicle was unveiled in 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show.[32]
A8 L Security (2011--present)
The A8 L Security features a core safety cell made from hot-formed armoured steel, aramide fabric, ceramics, special alloyed aluminium and multilayer glass. The car receives a high level of armouring, an emergency exit system, and a ballistic protection rating of VR7 -- strong enough to, according to Audi, withstand a military hand grenade attack.[33] In certain areas, the armouring on the Audi A8 L Security complies with the criteria for class VR 9 and VR 10.
First model included a W12 engine rated 368 kW (500 PS) and 625 N·m (461 lbf·ft), with delivery began in late summer 2011. An additional engine model with improved fuel efficiency went on sale in 2012.[34]
The vehicle was unveiled in 2011 Geneva Motor Show.[35]
S8 4.0 TFSI quattro
The D4 series Audi S8 4.0 TFSI quattro will go on sale in 2012. Like the previous iteration, the upcoming S8 is expected to cost less than the A8 L W12.[36][37]
The S8 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 4.2 seconds. It is powered by a 4.0-litre TFSI biturbo V8 engine with 382 kW (512 hp). The engine utilises cylinder deactivation so it can run as a V4 for better fuel economy.[36] The S8's engine is shared with the Bentley Continental GT, while a detuned variant of the engine makes 420 hp which is found in the 2013 Audi S6, Audi S7, and Audi A8. Direct competitors include the BMW Alpina B7 and Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG, which also have biturbo V8 engines.
The S8, like all Audi "S" models, is fitted as standard with Audi's trademark quattro four-wheel drive (4WD), with the S8 using the Torsen-based permanent 4WD system.
It is anticipated that a third-generation Audi S8 is expected to go on sale as a 2013 model, released one year after the all-new 2011 Audi A8. As such, S8 sales ended in the 2009 model year for the United States & Canada.
Audi S8 will use the 4.0 litre TFSI biturbo V8 engine with 382 kilowatts (519 PS; 512 bhp). It will accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.2 s.
Audi S and RS models are a range of high performance versions of certain car models of the German automotive company AUDI AG. These cars primarily focus on enhanced "sport" performance.[1] Production of Audi "S" cars began in 1990 with the S2 Coupé, whilst the first "RS" car appeared four years later in 1994 with the Audi RS2 Avant.
quattro GmbH, AUDI AGs high performance private subsidiary, creates even higher performance versions, known by their "RS" badging. The "RS" initials are taken from the German: RennSport - literally translated as "racing sport". RS is Audi's highest performance 'top-tier' trim level, positioned distinctly above the "S" ("Sport") specification level of Audi's regular model range.
Audi RS cars are some of the most powerful vehicles ever offered by Audi. The Audi RS6 5.0 TFSI quattro, for instance, is more powerful than the Audi S8 5.2 FSI quattro.
All "RS" cars pioneer some of Audi's latest and most advanced technology and engineering prowess, therefore, "RS" cars could be described as "halo vehicles".
Audi produce a specification of optional sports trim packages to their mainstream models, known as the S line. This is merely a trim specification which allows customers to effect a sporty appearance in their mainstream Audi model. Whilst the specific S line trim parts are designed and produced by quattro GmbH at its Neckarsulm factory, these mainstream cars are still manufactured and assembled by AUDI AG at their relevant factories on the same production lines alongside their other standard models.
Cars with S line trim are not to be confused with the specific high performance offerings - the "S" models (made by AUDI AG), and the "RS" models (made by quattro GmbH); Audi cars with S line trim bear identical performance figures to their counterparts with base or SE trim levels.
