New Porsche Macan debuts in Paris
The new generation Porsche Macan compact sports SUV makes its European première at the Paris Auto Show this week. The highlight of the new Porsche Macan model remains its driving experience and, in addition to revisions to the engine and chassis, the latest car also introduces fresh ideas to the overall design, interior comfort and connectivity.
Under the new Porsche Macan bonnet sits an efficient 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with improved combustion chamber geometry and gasoline particulate filter. It delivers 245 hp (180 kW) and a maximum torque of 370 Nm. In combination with its seven- speed PDK double-clutch gearbox, the four-wheel drive, four door sports car can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 6.7 seconds and the potential to reach a new Porsche Macan top speed of 139 mph (225 km/h). According to the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC), its fuel consumption is 34.9 mpg (8.1 l/100 km); equivalent to 185 g/km CO2 (see footnote).
New chassis tuning for enhanced handling and ride
In keeping with its positioning as the sports car in the compact SUV segment, the driving dynamics of the new Porsche Macan remain the primary focus. The revised chassis further optimizes the responsiveness and comfort, to make the Macan even more enjoyable to drive. As is typical for a sports car, it comes with mixed-size tires front:rear, enabling the driver to take full advantage of the handling benefits of the intelligent all-wheel drive Porsche Traction Management (PTM) system.
The new, three-part, three-dimensional LED light strip across the rear of the new Porsche Macan represents a typical element of the Porsche design DNA. The brake lights with their four-point cues are another immediately recognizable embodiment of the brand identity. LED technology is incorporated as standard into the new main headlight design, while the Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus (PDLS Plus) option can be used to control light distribution adaptively.
The introduction of these new exterior styling features are intended to bring a more purposeful look to the new Porsche Macan, as well as incorporating more contemporary design elements. The front of the new model has been styled to lend the car a wider appearance, while the overall impression intends to build on the sleek lines of the prior model. Customers also now have more scope to express their personality thanks to the addition of four new Porsche Macan exterior colors – Mamba Green Metallic, Dolomite Silver Metallic, Miami Blue and Crayon.
Fully interconnected: Porsche Connect Plus and online navigation as standard
The new Porsche Macan offers a range of digital possibilities through the use of the new Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system. The full-HD touchscreen is now 10.9 inches wide (previously 7.2 inches). As in the new Porsche Panamera and new Porsche Cayenne, the user interface can be adapted to suit personal requirements via predefined tiles. Fully interconnected as standard, the new system features online navigation, mobile phone preparation, two audio interfaces and intelligent voice control. Other new Porsche Macan features provided on board as standard include Porsche Connect Plus (with LTE phone module and SIM card reader), a WLAN hotspot and an array of Porsche Connect services.
The new Porsche Macan options with enhanced assist systems to choose from. The optional GT sports steering wheel echoes the style of the Porsche 911. A mode switch integrated into the steering wheel – including sport response button – is part of the optional Sport Chrono Package that can be fitted in the Macan. The new Traffic Assist system uses adaptive cruise control to allow the vehicle to travel at speeds of up to 37 mph (60 km/h) for a more pleasant and relaxing drive. As well as being able to accelerate and brake semi-automatically, the system helps the driver to stay in their lane in traffic jams and poor-flowing traffic. Porsche has further extended the list of new Porsche Macan options designed to enhance convenience, which now includes a heated windscreen and an air ioniser that – together with the fine particulate air filter (fitted as standard) – improves the quality of the air inside the vehicle.
