New top model in the Porsche Cayenne range with 550 hp, active aerodynamics and high performance brakes
The Sports Car for Five: the new Porsche Cayenne Turbo
With its world premiere at the 67th International Motor Show in Frankfurt 2017, the new Porsche Cayenne Turbo takes its place at the top of the Cayenne model range. The completely new, third generation Porsche Cayenne once again raises the bar for sporting performance in its segment and the new Porsche Turbo model – with a 550 hp (404 kW) 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 - especially so.
The high level of dynamic performance offered by the latest new Porsche Cayenne is based on a combination of innovative technologies, such as active aerodynamics including adjustable roof spoiler, controlled three-chamber air suspension, mixed tires and new high-performance brakes. With additional new Porsche optional features, such as rear-axle steering and automatic body roll stabilization via a 48-volt electrical system, the four door, four-wheel drive new Porsche Cayenne can deliver a driving experience equivalent to that of a true sports car. Indeed, the new Porsche Cayenne Turbo 0 to 62 mph in 4.1 seconds (3.9 seconds with the Sport Chrono Package) and new Porsche Cayenne Turbo top speed capability of 177 mph.
With a new, unique nose featuring LED main headlights combined with the Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS), at first glance the new Porsche Cayenne Turbo appears both dominant and independent. At night, the new Porsche Turbo sets itself apart from other Cayenne models with its double-row front light modules. The distinctive twenty-one inch diameter Cayenne Turbo wheels are reserved for the top model, and sit inside widened wheel arches edged with painted wheel arch trims. The door trims and rear apron are painted in body colour. The twin exhaust tailpipes, also specific to the new Porsche Cayenne Turbo, are one of the key distinguishing features from the rear.
The completely new Porsche Cayenne Turbo interior demonstrates the increased breadth of ability offered by the Cayenne Turbo: namely, sporting responses and more comfort simultaneously. Virtually all the vehicle functions of the fully networked car can be displayed and operated using the high-resolution touchscreen display of the Porsche Advanced Cockpit. Among them, for example, is the BOSE® Surround Sound System with 710 watts, fitted as standard. Driver and front seat passenger enjoy sports seats with 18-way powered adjustment. The integrated headrests are a new feature, and incidentally reminiscent of the 911. All new Porsche seats and the multi-function sports steering wheel (in an exclusive Turbo design) are heated as standard.
Greater power, greater torque: new Porsche Cayenne Turbo Engine twin-turbo V8 with 550 hp
At the heart of the Cayenne Turbo is the new four-litre V8 engine with twin turbocharging. With an output of 550 hp (404 kW), it exceeds the engine of its predecessor by 30 hp (22 kW), while the maximum torque of 770 Nm rises by 20 Nm. The new Porsche eight-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmission feeds the power to the road by means of the active all-wheel drive Porsche Traction Management (PTM). Thus, the new Porsche Cayenne Turbo 0 - 62 mph in 4.1 seconds (3.9 seconds with the Sport Chrono Package) and new Porsche top speed of 177 mph.
As is characteristic for new engine generations, the exhaust turbochargers are located inside the cylinder V, in the ‘central turbo layout’. The shortened exhaust paths between the combustion chambers and the turbochargers mean that the engine is especially responsive, while the central turbo layout results in significantly improved power delivery. Another advantage is the compact construction of the engine. This enables a lower installation position, which has a positive effect on the driving dynamics by lowering the new Porsche center of gravity, and thus raising the cornering precision.
Active chassis with three-chamber air suspension and mixed tires
The new lightweight chassis of the new Porsche Cayenne Turbo combines the best of three worlds: the precision of a sports car, the comfort of a saloon and the versatility to tackle mixed road surfaces. In particular, the combination of the new Porsche three-chamber air suspension with the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) extends this breadth of ability considerably. Three air chambers per spring strut are used in the adaptive air suspension design, making the chassis able to map different spring rates. With six selectable height levels, the ground clearance can be manually adjusted to suit the off-road terrain.
